eibe’s award-winning relationship with Waltham Forest goes back two years now. In that time, we have effected close on twenty major playground renovations, breathing new life in to some of the East End of London’s most underdeveloped areas.
The projects are continuing apace in 2016, the latest at Abbot’s Park near Leyton. The £70,000 scheme stemmed from apublic consultation, which identified a need to replace the current safety surfacing, refurbish some of the existing equipment and bring in some new units with more vibrant colours in order to attract under 7s, thus creating their own individual area of the park.
Decision makers at Waltham Forest Council also wanted a more natural design. The projects team used an existing mound with slide and incorporated complementary items from our wooden robinia range, alongside natural logs and stumps to act as a trim trail. Two existing units were deemed to still have good play value, so these were kept in place, but cleaned up and refreshed to blend in with all the colourful new products. The mound actually caused our installation team a few issues, as a skulk of foxes decided that it made quite an attractive burrowing tunnel!
Abbotts Park has become a perfect destination for a family day out. Mixed in with the different children’s playspaces is a Keep Fit Area with aerobic equipment, so adults can supervise and exercise simultaneously.
