A ‘waterlogged pitch’ delayed the recent opening of the new Ainley Top Play Area near Huddersfield in West Yorkshire. Torrential rain after Christmas meant that the proposed £40,000 Calderdale Council playspace was finally completed in late spring.
Adjacent to the M62 – indeed you can see the play area as you pass on the motorway – the scheme was the result of a competitive tender process last autumn. After the weather improved and the groundworks were levelled, a retaining embankment wildflower wall was built on the plateau before the products were introduced.
Ainley Top is crammed full of great robinia play equipment, suitable for toddlers and juniors alike. It has new landscaping and planting, as well as seating, log wall edging and safety surfacing. To complement the playspace, a new access path was added with an entry gate.
