RHS Harlow Carr in Harrogate is the recipient of a rather splendid new play area, designed and manufactured by eibe. The gardens are an oasis of natural play exploration, so it was an appealing project to take on, using our catalogue of diverse wooden equipment to blend in with the surroundings. In such a picturesque environment, utilising timber play products is essential, as they harmonise and enhance at the same time.
The RHS project was the result of a sales team catalogue drop, delivered by Consultant Simon Sharp. Curator Paul Cook responded to the promotional material and got in touch with us, as they were looking to revamp their somewhat tired-looking maze area.
Working in conjunction with the eibe design team, the stakeholders at Harlow Carr wanted to evoke a more natural looking play area, in sympathy with the RHS ethos and the environment. Along with natural planting, they aimed to offer a quite area - near to the lake house, nestling snugly amidst the surroundings, almost creating a floating phenomenon on the banks of the tranquil water.
In terms of product selection, eibe’s Playo classic Seaside House unit, as well as the Playo Rowing Boat deliver fun and escapism at all times. “Colin” the Spider was chosen for his slightly scary persona and was positioned near to the shrubbery to look like he was actually emerging from the woodland!
Why Colin? Well, let’s just say that this is now part of Harlow Carr folklore. But pay a visit to the RHS site and you just might found out for yourself!
