Bridge Road is another cog in the brilliant Waltham Forest Play Park Wheel. Completed in January despite some exceedingly unpleasant weather, the East End playground is yet another shining oasis for the Capital’s Community.
The once run down park is hidden away in a back street off of Leytonstone. It was very old, tired looking, under-used and in dire need of upgrading. Consultation with youngsters who lived locally determined that the children were bored with the same old equipment and wanted more exciting pieces of kit. The challenge, therefore, was to come up with an imaginative design with adventuresome products on a relatively low budget.
Firstly, a new, designated toddler area was created using cosmetically attractive artificial grass. Some original items were then refurbished and a daisy nest swing and bright new play boards were installed.
Then the dangerous toddler swings, which were stood on by older children, were replaced with flat-seated swings. The refurbished multi-play unit now sits alongside a fabulous climbing net, as well as a new DDA roundabout and upgraded see saw.
The surrounding artificial surfacing was given a jet wash and all other existing play equipment was painted. The overall look and feel of the park is now completely different to the more troubled looking one from the past. Thirty children from the local primary school attended the launch and were given goodie bags and treated to face painting.
